Recreational Hockey
NELSON HOCKEY LEAGUE (NHL)
Prerequisite: Instructional Hockey or ability to show basic hockey skills
Session: September 10 – March 27
Ages 8 – 10 EAST: Fri 7 PM and Sat 1:50 PM; Away jamborees TBD
Ages 7 and under WEST: Sat 2:40 PM and Sun 9:50 AM; Away jamborees TBD
Players learn how to play positions as well as the basics of game rules and strategies. The season will begin with weekly practices and progress into practices/games. Games are played against other “NHL” teams or other cross-ice teams. Games are played cross-ice. Multiple games and/or jamborees take place during the season. The ultimate goal is for the kids to have fun, develop hockey skills, and play games in a slightly competitive environment.
CAPITAL CORRIDOR HOCKEY LEAGUE (CCHL)
Prerequisite: Prior hockey experience
Ages: 9 to 14
Session: September 10 – March 27; Saturdays 12:30 PM and Sundays 11 AM Away games TBD
Players learn and develop playing skills in a team setting. Players are assigned to teams based on their year of birth and skill level. The program focuses on increasing confidence on the ice and strengthening basic skating and stick handling skills. Players learn how to play positions as well as the basics of game rules and strategies. Games are played against other CCHL teams (Navy, Northern Virginia, Howard, Baltimore, Bowie, Southern Maryland, Chevy Chase, and Wells). Players have fun, develop hockey skills and play games in a slightly competitive environment.
